Ravensprings is a wonderful, large, detached corner house situated in a quiet residential location. It dates back to the Victorian era and was built for the Mayor of Brighouse in 1896. This is a holiday home with character, full of original features and historic interest. The spacious accommodation is comfortably furnished and sleeps 14-16, making this a fabulous rental home for group holidays, family celebrations and reunions. Situated in a commanding position in the town of Brighouse, only 2 miles from the M62, the house is in an ideal position for touring Yorkshire. The Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors offer fabulous scenery and hundreds of miles of footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes, including the famous Coast to Coast route, just 20 miles from your door. Only 25 minutes drive is Bronte Country and the renowned home of the literary sisters, Howarth. You can visit 'Last of the Summer Wine' country at Holmfirth - the village where the sitcom was filmed is just 15 minutes from the house. The artist-writer community at Hebden Bridge is only 20 minutes drive. While the stunning stately home of Harewood House, with its marvellous gardens and paintings is just 25 minutes from this beautiful abode. Ravensprings is in a peaceful setting in a quiet street yet is in close proximity to numerous restaurants, gastro pubs with excellent food, bars, nightclubs, art galleries, theatres, and museums. There are plenty of activities for all the family - Brighouse is built on several canals and it is possible to hire a barge for the day, the town has a swimming pool, and is equipped with many high street stores as well as more traditional shops. There are 7 golf courses within 7 miles of Ravensprings so you needn't neglect your swing! If you tire of peace and quiet, only 20 minutes by car is Leeds city centre where you can enjoy a multitude of shops, restaurants, pubs, galleries, theatres and cinemas. This is a wonderful location with plenty of activities on offer for all the family, and it is a fantastic house to return to at the end of a day in the town or in the country. Accommodation: Ravensprings is a large, unique gentleman's residence with an elevated and sunny aspect. It is situated in a quiet residential road in the small town of Brighouse, West Yorkshire. The accommodation has a glamorous feel - with oak panelling, wooden floors and high beamed ceilings throughout, yet it is a homely and comfortable house. An impressive open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen occupy the ground floor while spread over the two upper levels are five double bedrooms, two of which are en suite, one family bedroom, and 2 bathrooms. The house sleeps 16 plus Cot with discounts are available for groups of 8 or fewer. It is also available for bargain Autumn and Winter breaks. Go to the bottom of the page for details The graceful grand front entrance leads into a large characterful hall full of period features - a large etched glass, arched door with oak panelling on the walls, original lincrusta below the dado, mosaic floor, hand crafted banisters and ornate, original radiator line the route into the huge double aspect sitting room. The sitting room has real 'wow' factor from the large bay windows, stunning decorative beams and stripped floors to walls that are uniquely lined with wood panelling from the ocean liner the Mauretania. The room is beautifully furnished with Chinese rugs and ample comfortable sofas providing seating for up to 18 adults. The room has a welcoming open fire, a 50' TV with Sky satellite and a second seating area and with additional television, DVD and CD player. It provides an excellent reception room in which to hold family get togethers and parties. The dining room is an elegant sunny room with large bay windows affording lovely views across to Ravensprings Miniature Steam Railway Park, which is open to the public at weekends. Seating 16 people at two tables (one seating 10-12 and the other seating 6), this is a superb entertaining space. This room is well equipped for self-catering for large numbers - an antique serving hatch conveniently links the dining room to the Victorian kitchen, which is mostly original with the addition of modern quality appliances. A dishwasher, double gas oven, microwave, and Smeg fridge meet all your modern convenience needs. A separate laundry room contains washing machine, tumble dryer, and freezer. The ground floor also has a cloakroom with WC and wash hand basin. On the first floor a stunning four-poster bedroom with gorgeous hand-carved king sized bed and super comfortable mattress provides you slumber in comfort and style. The room has pleasant panoramic views of the city, although it is not overlooked. There is an en-suite bathroom, which is also accessible from the hall and which has a double-ended antique French bath and power shower. Along the hall is a second lovely double bedroom with a historic oak-carved bedroom suite. The antique bed, hand-carved in French oak is enchanting and guaranteed to give you sweet dreams! Also on the first floor is a large modern family bathroom with double sized power shower cubicle, 6 foot bath, bidet, 2 wash hand basins and a lavatory. The third bedroom, a pretty Edwardian room with a lovely quaint iron double bed and super sprung mattress is furnished with a pretty vanity unit in the corner. The fourth and final bedroom on this floor has an enormous supersize double bed with orthopaedic mattress, so huge it can hold most of the family! This room has an antique Victorian rocking crib and an en-suite shower room, for ultimate luxury. On the second floor, the main bedroom is a very large family bedroom with round bed and twin guest beds, ideal for children, sleeping at least 6. Down the hall, a gorgeous king size bedroom also has a cot bed, wonderful antique wardrobe and dressing table. There are beautiful views of the townscape and distant countryside from both the upstairs rooms. The lovely sunny quirky bathroom on the second floor has a Victorian Scottish bath, flowered basin and lavatory. Ravensprings is on a large corner plot of mostly lawn and border. While the garden is not large, there is a private lawned area with seating and swings for children, and a large suntrap patio, ideal for barbecues and alfresco dining in the summer.
