Painswick self-catering holiday cottages

Just south of Cheltenham and Gloucester is the little Gloucestershire village of Painswick. A typical Cotswold village, Painswick has narrow winding streets, old stone cottages and a large wool church. The churchyard has ninety-nine yew trees (rumour has it that the devil will uproot any more that are planted!) and a stroll amongst the expertly sculpted topiary has a magical charm. Just outside Painswick is the beautiful Rococo garden. The six-acre garden was overgrown and abandoned until the 1970s when it was lovingly restored to reveal a fine example of flamboyant Rococo design. Take your time to wander around the garden and you'll be able to take in some fascinating features: The Kitchen Garden, The 'Red House', The 'Gothic Alcove' and the Anniversary Maze, which was added to celebrate the garden's 250th anniversary. If you want to rent a self-catering holiday cottage near Painswick then there are some gorgeous Cotwolds cottages to hire close to this idyllic village.
