A typical Cotswold village, Painswick has narrow winding streets, old stone cottages and a large wool church. The churchyard has ninety-nine yew trees (rumour has it that the devil will uproot any more that are planted!) and a stroll amongst the expertly sculpted topiary has a magical charm. Just outside Painswick is the beautiful Rococo garden. The six-acre garden was overgrown and abandoned until the 1970s when it was lovingly restored to reveal a fine example of flamboyant Rococo design.
