Hazeltree Cottage
Hazeltree cottage is situated in the heart of Old Freshwater an attractive village at the head of the Yar estuary on the Isle of Wight. There are two parts to Freshwater, the main town and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater is positioned at the western tip of the Isle of Wight. The town offers a good range of quaint shops in the town centre, and like Yarmouth, Freshwater is busy all year round. Hazeltree cottage is conveniently situated close to the famous Red Lion pub which is renowned for its excellent food.

The West Wight has many areas of outstanding natural beauty - rolling countryside, peaceful forests, picturesque villages and breathtaking coastal scenery, such as the rugged white cliffs of Freshwater Bay, the multi-coloured sandstone cliffs of Alum Bay and of course, the famous landmark Needles rocks. For the walker and the cyclist there are many footpaths and cycle routes on the island and from Freshwater there is a particularly pleasant path to Yarmouth following the route of the former railway along the bank of the estuary. The coastline which runs from Yarmouth to Totland Bay, provides stunning beaches, with clear warm waters many accessible by car or from the coastal paths. Families will enjoy the delightful small beach at Totland Bay or you can relax on the golden sands of Colwell Bay home to beach huts and water sports. For windsurfers there is the popular Compton Bay.

Freshwater has its share of interesting historical sites and if you are staying in this delightful self-catering holiday cottage then you can explore them all. Overlooking Freshwater Bay is Farringford, the one time home of Alfred Lord Tennyson and the place where he wrote much of his work. The photographic museum at Dimbola celebrates the work of Margaret Cameron, a noted Victorian photographer. Queen Victoria's influence made it fashionable for many people to visit the Island, who came for the stunning scenery and warmer climate. Much of the Isle of Wight's most imposing buildings and architecture bears the stamp of the Victorian era.
