Ian's Cottage in Wedmore, Somerset - 1 bedroom, sleeps 2

Our linen is luxurious egyptian cotton and for each guest there is a large fluffy bath sheet and bath towel.

A welcome pack of essentials such as milk, sugar, hot chocolate, tea, coffee (ground and instant), olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper.

Eco friendly cleaning products.

Electricity included powered by solar PV panels, initial fuel for the woodburner is included, thereafter available at cost.

Due to it's design and layout Ian's Cottage is not suitable for crawling babies, toddlers or small children.

Smoking is only permitted outside.

Access is approximately a quarter of a mile down a fairly bumpy farm track which is easily accessible for all but the lowest of vehicles.

Sorry but we do not accept dogs.

Ian’s Cottage at Brickyard Farm is a charming brick cottage that is packed full of character. It is located on the edge of the village of Wedmore in the Somerset countryside. Situated close to Wells, Cheddar and Glastonbury, there is so much to do around this area.

The cottage is only a 5 minute walk from Wedmore which has a good selection of shops from those selling local produce to gift and antique shops. Should you be looking for somewhere to eat out there is a delicatessen, number of tea rooms, three pubs and a restaurant, so plenty of places to try during your stay.

The Mendip Hills which are an area of outstanding natural beauty are close by so ideal for those that enjoy walking, cycling or riding. The Somerset Levels is also nearby and is well known for its National Nature Reserves which attract bird watchers from far and wide.

Should you want a bit of culture and history, the City of Wells is a short drive and its magnificent cathedral and Bishops Palace are worth a visit as are Glastonbury Tor and Abbey and Cheddar Gorge. The larger cities of Bristol and the beautiful Georgian city of Bath are less than an hour’s drive away.

Equally the seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare with its sandy beaches is not far. There are many historic houses and gardens such as Longleat with its safari park and the National Trust’s Montacute House and Stourhead Gardens which are all worthy of a visit. Should you find the time after all that, golf, shooting and fishing are also available within 2 miles of Ian’s Cottage. Fans of the horse racing will find it easy to get to Wincanton, Taunton and Chepsto

Accommodation

Ian’s Cottage is hidden away with outstanding views across the fields to the Mendip Hills, there isn’t a road in sight. This is the perfect, romantic self-catering option for a couple. The property has a large lawned garden with a terrace. The cottage is reached by climbing 12 steps from the parking area. Outside you will find garden furniture and a barbecue so that on those long summer evenings you can enjoy the views. There is a secure shed for storing bicycles.

As you enter the property, you walk into the beamed open plan living/dining room which is beautifully decorated. There is a wood burning stove, to ensure that you are warm and cosy even on a winter’s evening, a comfortable sofa , TV/DVD and Radio/CD. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you would need for a self-catering holiday or short break. The property has an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher and automatic washing machine. The bathroom has a bath with an electric shower over the bath and is a bright room as it has a sloping ceiling with velux window. The owners have put in under floor heating throughout the ground floor so it really is warm. As you head up the narrow wooden stairs you will find the beamed double bedroom on the first floor which has a 5ft bed and velux window and marvellous views of the Mendip Hills. Linen, duvet and towels are provided by the owners.

What’s Included

Linen, duvets and towels are provided. Electricity is included (please note that there is a winter supplement for underfloor heating between 1 Oct and 30 April). Initial fuel for the woodburner is included, thereafter available at cost. Changeover day is a Friday with arrival time after 4pm and departure before 10am.

Directions

From M5, exit at J22. Take the 3rd exit on roundabout – A38 to Bristol Airport/Weston-super-Mare. Take 1st turning right at the Fox and Goose Pub and stay on this road. At crossroads, turn left. You are now in Mark on the B3139 which will take you to Wedmore passing through Blackford. Once in Wedmore carry on past the church on your left. At the bottom of the hill turn right. At the T junction, turn left on to the B3139 to Wells. Go past the New Inn on your right. The road goes up a small hill. Ignore the first road on the left. On the brow of the hill on the left opposite a row of cottages is a cream house, Combe Lane is immediately on the left after this house. It is a farm track. Drive down the hill passing a house on the corner and you come to a gate. This is Brickyard Farm. Turn right as you come in. Ian’s Cottage on to the copse of trees ahead and park by the steps leading up to the cottage.
Please note that access is via a farm track that is accessible for all but the lowest of sports cars.
