Testimonials
We both loved Ruby Cottage and appreciated how clean it was. I couldn't believe how well equipped the kitchen was! The Bettle & Chisel is a quiet, friendly pub with good beer and decent pub grub. Padstow was still busy – we ate at Rick Stein's cafe – the food was really good and very reasonable. Port Isaac is really nice – nice pubs and good places to eat – we tried The Slipway Hotel on our last night – very good, you need to book. Wadebridge has all the shops you need. We also visited Tintagel, Boscastle and Bodmin and went on the steam railway. There is not really anything in Camelford and we would not recommend the Cornish Arms even though it is in the Good Beer Guide. The Lanhydrock National Trust House was amazing – you need the whole day as the house is enormous – we counted eight rooms at least dedicated to food preparation! Everyone in Delabole has been really friendly and we have really enjoyed our stay - will definitely be back – maybe in the summer so we can enjoy the beaches. Owen & Charlotte, Surrey, 18 September 2010 Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage with us and many thanks to Mel for such a clean place and friendly welcome with the cream tea on arrival. The cottage was like home from home, very well equipped kitchen. Weather did let us down a bit with quite a bit of rain but didn't stop us from going out. Can really recommend the Bettle & Chisel down the road, opposite the Spar. Superb food and John and Cheri made us feel very welcome. We visited Boscastle, Tintagel, Padstow, Polzeath. Michell, Paul, Lauren, Ben, Saffie & Baby, Bedfordshire, 21 August 2010 You were right, I forgot all about the payment problems when I walked through Ruby Cottage door. I fell in love, actually a “coup de Coeur”. As everybody says, well equipped, cosy, lovely, the perfect typical Cornish cottage I was dreaming of when I planned our holidays. Our stay has been a fabulous one, there is so much to see. The children were happy with Delabole's playing field and the beaches and we visited lots of places, Newquay, St Ives, Land's End, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Restormel Castle, Tintagel. In short, a very pleasant stay, to be renewed! We appreciated the cream tea and wine on arrival and all the details in each room that made us comfortable. Chopin family, France, 31 July 2010 Had a wonderful week again at Ruby Cottage. Weather thankfully a bit better than last year though still hit and miss. Had a wonderful walk down to Tregardock. Stunning views and well worth it. You can park in the village to make the walk shorter. Took the ferry to Padstow. Did some crab fishing from the harbour. Caught a fair few – 6 year old son very happy. Rock pooling in Baby's Bay next to New Polzeath yielded a scallop which we cooked for tea and shared between 4!!!! (accompanied by some fish and chips). Trebarwith Strand wonderful for body boarding and chilling out. If you are brave enough (or mad enough) try picking some mussels from Trebarwith. AT low tide you will find massive ones on the rocks. With a good scrub and cooked with some garlic, celery, onions and clotted cream you will have a stunning supper. As usual, cottage extremely well equipped for us “foodies”. In fact, I think rather better than my own kitchen.... Also visited Eden Project, well worth it and intend to do St Kitts Herbery on way home. Price family, Worcs, 10 July 2010 As everyone has said, a lovely welcome of cream tea after a long journey. An excellent start. We have had an amazing week, this is undoubtedly the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. A fantastic location to get everywhere. We have walked with our two retrievers to Trebarwith and back, walked around the quarry twice, walked in Port Isaac and Tintagel and visited Padstow – each time with both dogs. We went body boarding twice at Trebarwith and rewarded our exercise with amazing freshly cooked hot doughnuts. The cottage is fantastic, dog friendly, and perfect for relaxing after a strenuous day. The slate floors are ideal for keeping the dogs and us cool on hot days and an amazing collection of DVD, games and jigsaws have kept us entertained all week. We will be back next year. Rick, Debbie, Emma & Chris, Warks, 3 July 2010 This has been really great. Geoff ate all the scones and jam. Our cats have really enjoyed the ambience. We do recommend you and your future guests to go to Lundy Island which is off Clovelly; puffins, peregrine falcons, razor bills, fat seals and dolphins! Great exercise walking for a day (around 10 miles around the island). We recommend those that like beef to check out the produce from the “Minster Herd” Home Farm, it's off the road just towards Boscastle. There is a shed and you simply put the money in a box and walk off seeing the cows that have given you the stuff! Rika & Geoff, London, 26 June 2010 Very pleased with the welcoming cream tea. We have it a lovely comfortable little cottage (mind your head!) and with the hot weather all week, the slate floor and cool lunge have been a godsend after a day out or relaxing in the secluded garden. Not a lot can be added to previous visitors' experiences of Padstow, Port Isaac, Bude, Tintagel etc – all well the climb or ferry trip. Would recommend using the Town Trail routes to really see the “real” area. Maps have been very useful with the info in the two folders. NB. Check the Tide Tables before visiting the local beaches. Not recommended is the Bettle & Chisel, good for a swift half but not for families. Ron & Amanda, E Sussex, 19 June 2010 We were so pleased to see a cream tea on our arrival and even more when we discovered the wealth of local information available in the two binders. The weather was gorgeous all week and we went to one beach or another every day. Our favourite was Trevone Bay but the beach at Daymer Bay was also nice. Old MacDonald's farm was a big hit with our three year old and made for a nice day outing. A warning: cream tea is delicious, but daily cream teas for a week will pay havoc on you system. Ruby Cottage was a wonderful way to explore Cornwall. We will recommend it to friends. John, Jessica & Samantha, London, 12 June 2010 Thanks for a lovely clean cottage. Had a great week. Some bike rides, some walks. Used local buses. Weather not brilliant but managed to enjoy one barbeque! And WD40 came in useful for bikes left out in rain! Chris from Delabole Taxis was great – went to Trewarmett Inn for a live music night – very good. Lin & Pete, Worcs, 8 May 2010 Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. We had a wonderful weekend in every way possible and will always look back at our time at Ruby Cottage as a highlight of our time in the UK. Sarah, Tammy, Andre & Kate, London, 30 April 2010 We love Ruby Cottage! Can we buy it please? We had a lovely break, it is peaceful and comfortable. We were even lucky with the weather – so much so I got sunburnt! Looking forward to our return. Heather, Joe & Ellie, Sussex, 12 April 2010 Lovely cosy, comfortable cottage and the welcoming cream tea and champagne the icing on the cake - thank you - a lovely way to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary. The weather was not particularly kind to us but we were walking everyday and saw much of the area and coastline/. During the week we also visited jame Oliver's 15 at Watergate Bay and Rick Stein's Petroc Hotel at Patstein. Hope to return. John and Sue, Sussex,20th March 2010 Our 4th visit postponed from January for health reasons, in view of weather in January, quite glad! Usual offerings of cream tea supplmented so we could toast our health - many thanks! Managed reasonable walks despite the cold our Border Terrier enjoyed herself back at our usual haunts plus a very, very cold Landhydrock. Hopefully back again "soon". Derek, Shirley and Molly, Staffs, 6th March 2010
