Extra Amenities

You would be forgiven if you thought the surroundings were somewhat familiar. This quirky, single-storey property, nestled in the village of Turville, is 5 miles north of Henley-on-Thames. It is one of the most beautiful villages in the Chilterns and the south of England. Turville is home to the Vicar of Dibley, the BBC sitcom starring Dawn French. It has also been used for various TV programmes including Midsomer Murders, Jonathan Creek, The Day of the Triffids and Miss Marple. It has also featured in quite a number of films over the years such as ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, ‘Father Came Too’, ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ and the 2nd world war film ‘Went the Day Well’.

The Cart Shed, adjacent to the owner’s home, is directly opposite the church (Vicar of Dibley), and is thought to be the only short term accommodation in the village. Stylishly decorated, it is perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway. Its kitchen area is equipped for light meals, there is a 2-ring hob, microwave/grill and a fridge.

It is warmed by underfloor heating, offers a large powerful shower, and a comfortable double bed.

The village consists of a country pub serving delicious food, local beer and fine wines, a small village green, and a wonderful 12th-century church. Clustered around the green and along the short high street are some of the most attractive period cottages you can imagine; it is as if you have been transported back several centuries in time. Rising up behind the village are the Chiltern Hills where you can see people walking along the ridge. Another familiar site is Cobstone Mill, which is the windmill that was used for the film adaptation of Ian Fleming’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Chiltern Hills stretch from the River Thames in Oxfordshire to Hitchin in Hertfordshire, and are nationally protected as some of the finest countryside in the UK. They are a fantastic place to explore and are enjoyed by walkers and cyclists all year round.

Wildlife and herds of fallow deer are in abundance, and you will frequently see them grazing on your walks, together with red kites soaring above you.

Other places of interest nearby include the picturesque town of Henley-on-Thames, known most commonly the world over for its Royal Regatta held in the first week of July, and also the festival soon after. Garsington Opera is set on the beautiful Wormsley Estate, 5 minutes up the road, and is something not to be missed if you love your music. It is advisable to book tickets prior to your stay. Marlow-on-Thames is also only 15 minutes away, along with Henley providing great restaurants and pretty walks along the Thames. High Wycombe is also 15 minutes away, offering shopping in the Eden Centre and convenient access to central London either by motorway or a regular train service, and takes only 25 minutes to Marylebone station. Bicester village is 35 minutes away with spectacular shopping. Shop 2½ miles, pub and restaurant 175 yards
