Croft Cottage in Rainow, Cheshire - 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6

Croft Cottage is a 3 bedroom barn conversion located on a traditional working sheep farm. Situated 1200 feet above sea level on the quiet, unspoiled western side of the Peak District National Park, the cottage enjoys far-reaching views over the Cheshire Plain to the Welsh mountains. This self catering holiday cottage sleeps six, making it a fabulous location for a family holiday on a farm, or a group walking, cycling, fishing or climbing holiday. Common Barn Farm is ideally located for exploring the magnificent scenery of the Peak District and Cheshire and offers an abundance of activities. The village of Rainow has excellent pubs that serve homemade food (transport can be arranged) and the historic towns of Macclesfield and Buxton are just minutes away. The cottage owners run a tea shop on the farm which is open daily and they can supply you with locally produced lamb - why skip the Sunday roast just because you're on holiday?!

For staying on a farm, and touring the Peak District, Croft Cottage is hard to beat. Among the surrounding attractions is Castleton and its Blue John Mines; Buxton with its famous Crescent and Opera House; Bakewell and its delicious puddings as well as the stately homes of Chatsworth and Lyme Park.

Cheshire's gems include Chester, Gawsworth Hall, Tatton Park, Quarry Bank Mill, Jodrell Bank and Little Moreton Hall. Anson Engine Museum is located in nearby Poynton. While, easily reached by road or rail, Manchester has The Lowry and Old Trafford among its many attractions. For holidaying with a family - the theme park at Alton Towers and animals at Chester Zoo make a nice day trip and North Wales, Liverpool and Blackpool are also reachable from the cottage by car.

This charming Peak District holiday home makes a superb base for a walking holiday - Rainow has an extensive footpath network while the beautiful Goyt Valley is just two miles away. Further afield, Kinder Scout, Dovedale, the Roaches, and many other areas offer a great variety of Peak District rambles. For fun of a different kind - go dingy sailing in the Goyt Valley, or if you'd rather stay on terra-firma, the Peak District makes a great cycling break with many quiet yet challenging, hilly country lanes.

When you tire of the hills, the Middlewood Way is nearby, and the Monsal, High Peak, Tissington and Longendale cycle trails are within half an hour's drive. There are guided off-road motorcycle tours along the green lanes of the Peak District and beyond, taking you through diverse landscape and some beautiful countryside. For completely traffic-free enjoyment, try horse-riding on 250 acres of farmland - you can even bring your own horse - grazing is available on the farm. For those with a head for heights, many opportunities for climbing and bouldering are within a short drive of the cottage.

For more sedate activities, moorland birds such as the curlew and lapwing can be found in this great birdwatching area. While for anglers of all abilities, flyfishing day permits for Errwood Reservoir are available and tuition with a resident professional game angling instructor is available. Fishing is also possible in the private pond! This charming cottage will provide an unforgettable holiday with something to please everyone in the beautiful landscape of the Peak District.
