Barnacre is set in the Forest of Bowland an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you enjoy walking there are many footpaths and lanes to follow, including the popular Nicky Nook and Grizedale Valley walks that follow the river through the valley up to the reservoirs. With wildlife in abundance, walking is a pleasure whatever the weather. For those who like a break along the way, the nearby village of Scorton with its cafe, coffee shop and pub offers a welcome rest and the energy for the uphill walk back. The Old Stables is a delightful self-catering cottage in this gorgeous part of Lancashire and a great place to stay to explore the delights of this part of England. Only four miles away is the very pleasant small town of Garstang, with many shops, 3 supermarkets and a weekly market on the High Street every Thursday. Lancaster is just 20 minutes away with attractions such as the Castle, Prison, Museum, Tropical Butterfly House, Dukes Theatre and the outdoor plays in Williamson Park worth a visit. Further afield, a 45 minute drive will take you to the Lake District, Windermere, Bowness and Ullswater, with the attractions ranging from the World of Beatrix Potter to a steam train ride at Ravenglass. Blackpool is a major attraction for people of all ages, the Pleasure Beach with the roller coasters and a new ride introduced for summer 2007. Blackpool Zoo, ideal for younger children, the illuminations each autumn and the famous Blackpool Tower. Even the beaches have a blue flag award for cleanliness. For eating out there is a wide range of restaurants and pubs locally, catering for Michelin starred quality and specialists using produce sourced within the area. Accommodation: A 5 star English Tourism Council graded award winning luxury cottage, originally this was were the horses were kept back in the 16th century. Now the hayracks and wooden partitions have been replaced with a magnificent oak 'Mark Wilkinson' designer kitchen. With a gleaming Aga cooker, huge American fridge freezer dispensing chilled spring water and ice. The living area with a feature fireplace containing wood burning stove is open plan, through to the kitchen/dining/conservatory area. A separate sitting room, bootroom and an additional cloakroom with w.c. and washbasin completes the ground floor. Upstairs are 4 attractive bedrooms. The double has an ensuite shower room and there are 3 additional twin bedrooms. A pretty family bathroom with corner bath completes the accommodation. To the rear of the cottage is a secure enclosed paved area ideal for young children; whilst the conservatory leads out onto a large private garden area with picnic tables. What's included: Heating and electricity are included in the rental price and also logs are provided for the wood burning stove. All bed linen and towels are provided. Pets are welcome at a charge of £25 per week per pet. Directions: From the south leave the M6 at junction 32 and take the A6 to Garstang. From the north leave the M6 at Junction 33 and also follow signs to Garstang. Detailed directions will be forwarded to you at the time of booking. Change over day is Friday; 10am checkout, 4pm arrival time, but this can sometimes be flexible. Short breaks are available. The owners are resident and personally take great care in ensuring that everything is to your satisfaction for your arrival and during your stay.
