Greenbank
Skelsmergh, Nr Kendal, Cumbria

A traditional 19th century semi-detached cottage in a rural position on the edge of the Lake District National Park with far reaching views of the Lake District fells. The cottage is approached down a private drive making it quiet and secluded yet it is only 1 and a 1/2 miles north of the mediaeval market town of Kendal, known as the Gateway to the Lakes. The self-catering cottage is ideally situated for exploring Windermere (8 miles), Ambleside, and the central lakes - the Lake District National Park is an area of outstanding beauty, one quarter of which is owned by the National Trust. Lake Windermere, at 10 and a 1/2 miles, is the longest of the 16 lakes. Ambleside is approximately the centre of the Lake District with the lakes radiating out in most directions. Not only is the scenery spectacular but the area is also renowned for its literary history. The children's author and illustrator, Beatrix Potter, lived in Hawkshead near Windermere and the poet, William Wordsworth, lived in Grasmere.

The valleys of Longsleddale and Kentmere are only 4 miles away offering dramatic scenery, good walking and bird watching - buzzards can often be seen circling the hills opposite the house. Ten miles to the east of Greenbank is Sedbergh and the Yorkshire Dales National Park which covers a further area of 1,762 km. This lovely holiday cottage near Kendal is ideally located to enjoy a vast area of unspoilt countryside offering outstanding scenery, a range of wildlife habitats and a rich cultural heritage.
