A large 4 bedroom self-catering holiday cottage in Northumberland, awarded 5 stars by Visit England, Dovecot is a beautifully renovated barn conversion situated in the Glendale Valley just bordering the National park. Equidistant between Berwick Upon Tweed and Alnwick and just a half hour from Northumberland's beautiful Heritage coastline, the cottage is situated on a working farm that nestles under the Cheviot Hills, and is one of 3 cottages available to rent at the same location. Dovecot is a beautiful cottage for a - walking, fishing, gliding, riding or cycling holiday. It overlooks a private tennis court which guests are welcome to use. Trout and salmon fishing is on offer just minutes from the cottage.

Northumberland's imposing hills, golden beaches and rugged coves provide endless drama.

Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, The Farne Islands and the Scottish Borders are within easy reach of the cottage.

This is the ideal cottage from which to escape into the wilderness by walking in unspoilt countryside. Among the many well signed routes from your doorstep are Linhope Spout and Routin Linn - culminating in the waterfall - the perfect place for a picnic. The area offers opportunities for walking at all levels, from gentle strolls along the river where you might spot an otter to the 62 miles St Cuthbert's Way from Lindisfarne in Northumberland to Melrose on the Scottish Border. The Way passes near to the cottages and the owners can organize taxis for drop off and collection.

Cycle on uncongested roads - the Pennine Cycleway goes by the cottage, making this the ideal cottage to stay for a weekend rest stop as part of a longer cycle. Or if you're seeking an energetic challenge you will enjoy Northumberland's mountain biking tracks, amongst the most spectacular and toughest routes in the country. There are plenty of gentle family tracks and bridleways too. Bike hire is available locally, and can be arranged.

Accommodation:

This is a large cottage housed in a former farm building overlooking the tennis court and with gorgeous views of the Cheviot Hills. This is a wonderful child-friendly cottage sleeping 8-10 in 4 en suite bedrooms with additional sofabed for children. Most of this 5 star self-catering accommodation is on the ground floor, beautifully furnished in a contemporary style but with rustic features including exposed beams and a wood burning stove. The cottage has wood and tiled flooring throughout.

The spacious open plan living/dining room is equipped with a tv/dvd and cd player, ample seating on comfortable sofas and a wood burning stove that creates a warm welcoming glow. The room opens into a large dining table that comfortably seats 8. While the spacious kitchen with breakfast bar and contemporary fittings is fitted for luxury self-catering with an American fridge-freezer and range cooker. The kitchen doors lead to a lovely patio dining area and private garden. The cottage overlooks a tennis court which guests have use of.

The cottage also has a large games room, with a ping pong table and ample books, games, bean bags and another TV so the children can make their own entertainment while you relax! The games room has a sofa bed, providing additional sleeping space suitable for children. The ground floor of the cottage also has a small cloakroom and a utility room for storing your walking gear, bikes, fishing equipment.

This is a very spacious cottage with four double/twin bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms, with only one of the bedrooms upstairs. Like the rest of this quality self-catering holiday cottage the bedrooms are beautifully presented with ample storage space, deep comfortable mattresses and quality bed linen. Three of the bathrooms have large walk in showers while the others are equipped with a shower over the bath, so you don't have to worry about the morning rush.

What's included

Bed Linen, towels, electricity. The cottage has a stock of OS maps and tourist guides. Catering can be arranged - for that special occasion a dinner party can be arranged allowing the chef in your family a night off. Scrumptious home cooked meals can be prepared for your arrival. Check in day Saturday. Check in 3.30pm and check out 10am. Well behaved dogs welcome by prior arrangement. Please keep them off the furniture and out of the bedrooms and bathrooms.

Dovecot is situated on the Berwick Road (B6525) 1/2 a mile from the A697 and 10 miles from the A1. One hour’s drive North of Newcastle and 1 and 1/2 hours drive South of Edinburgh.
